python 2.3 beta1 is faster and some nice modules. Can an ebuild be included into portage? Thanks! Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
not at the moment .. i have one privately in testing but it will take a while because this is : 1. a core package which portage relies on 2. beta release i'm aware of the releases, but upgrading isn't easy especially when you have to recompile all the external python modules.
i won't be putting it in the tree until it finalises. here is my local copy if you want to experiment, but if you have any bugs with it, mail me privately about it. it will _not_ replace /usr/bin/python, all it will do is install /usr/lib/python2.3 and /usr/lib/python2.3/* for you to play around with the new interpreter. http://cvs.gentoo.org/~liquidx/local/tree-liquidx/dev-lang/python/
Since the CVS servers were moved around, this link doesn't work. Is there a new link? Also your 'Common Ebuild Mistakes' was very helpful and is missed. http://cvs.gentoo.org/~liquidx/local/tree-liquidx/dev-lang/python/
After some snooping around, I found the new location, if anyone is interested: http://dev.gentoo.org/~liquidx/local/liquidx/dev-lang/python/
