Fixes the problem. Adapted from Debian.
Port of the patch described at  to 2.0.16. Some brainiard decided to change the commenting style in the file, so this was a hand-job. (heh)

Do you know where that >/dev/null 2>&1 comes from? It would help with other bugs if that wasn't there.
