I just booted a 2008.0 beta net install cd, but found that the cryptsetup command was not present. I suspect a package was missing for it. I used the x86 cd, and I've confirmed that it IS present on the 2007.0-r1 equivalent ISO. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
Could you possibly list the actual ISO name?
install-x86-minimal-2008.0_beta1.iso
I can confirm this with the beta2 image.
Confirmed for: install-x86-minimal-2008.0_beta2.iso install-amd64-minimal-2008.0_beta2.iso Take note that this may be by design, rather than a bug, since there are many crypto modules missing from /lib/modules/(kernel name)/kernel/crypto... Hopefully it was simply overlooked. I'd really like to see these on the minimal CD, since they're necessary to access or install crypted partitions.
Also take note of a workaround: Boot the 2008.0_beta2 minimal install CD with kernel option DOCACHE, then you can umount the CD and mount another with the desired functionality. You'll have to have the proper cryptsetup binaries for your arch as well as correct crypto modules for your arch that match the install CD kernel. Not fun, but doable. Or, use 2007.0. A sync will get you up to speed after install.
The 2008.0 release was done a long time ago.
