Description Albert Zeyer 2008-04-05 08:45:27 UTC
I enabled the verbose output and I only get always this error:

...
processing /usr/kde/3.5/share/applications/kde/desktop.desktop with action TRACKER_ACTION_CHECK and counter 0
ERROR: unknown service Applications
processing /usr/kde/3.5/share/applications/kde/kfmclient_dir.desktop with action TRACKER_ACTION_CHECK and counter 0
ERROR: unknown service Applications
processing /usr/kde/3.5/share/applications/kde/lanbrowser.desktop with action TRACKER_ACTION_CHECK and counter 0
ERROR: unknown service Applications

ERROR: unknown service Applications
processing /usr/kde/3.5/share/applications/kde/kcmhistory.desktop with action TRACKER_ACTION_CHECK and counter 0
ERROR: unknown service Applications
...

It runs now for quite some time and still hangs on all these files and gives always this error.

Seems that other users have this too:

It's a bit strange. I just looked up the source and there you have:

static void
process_index_entity (Tracker  *tracker,
                      FileInfo *info)
{
        ServiceDef *def;
	gchar      *service_info;
	gchar      *str;

/*...*/
	service_info = tracker_get_service_for_uri (info->uri);

	if (!service_info) {
		tracker_error ("ERROR: cannot find service for path %s", info->uri);
		return;
	}

        str = g_utf8_strdown (service_info, -1);
	def = g_hash_table_lookup (tracker->service_table, str);
	g_free (str);

	if (!def) {
		if (service_info) {
			tracker_error ("ERROR: unknown service %s", service_info);
		} else {
			tracker_error ("ERROR: unknown service");
		}
		g_free (service_info);
		return;
	}

	if (info->is_directory) {
		info->is_hidden = !def->show_service_directories;
		tracker_db_index_file (tracker->index_db, info, NULL, NULL);
		g_free (service_info);
		return;
	} else {
		info->is_hidden = !def->show_service_files;
	}

	if (g_str_has_suffix (service_info, "Emails")) {
/*...*/
	} else if (strcmp (service_info, "Files") == 0) {
/*...*/
        } else if (strcmp (service_info, "WebHistory") ==0 ) {
/*...*/
	} else if (g_str_has_suffix (service_info, "Conversations")) {
/*...*/
	} else if (strcmp (service_info, "Applications") == 0) {
/*...*/
	} else {
/*...*/
	}

	g_free (service_info);
}

I searched in the whole code for "service_table" and I get:
sanity_check_option_values(): tracker->service_table = g_hash_table_new_full (g_str_hash, g_str_equal, NULL, NULL);
And some g_hash_table_lookup() to this service_table. But there is no single line of code which adds any entries to this table!

The whole code seems broken somehow...

Also, if you look at process_index_entity(), the only place where it needs this ServiceDef is to set info->is_hidden.

Probably it works correct if you would set info->is_hidden manually to false and you just ignore the check if it founds a ServiceDef. But that seems more than a hack than a real solution.

I will try to ask the dev what the meaning of this is...
Comment 3 Albert Zeyer 2008-04-05 09:57:39 UTC
Just for fun I removed this check. Then I always get this:

...
Processing /usr/share/applications/allegro-setup-allegro.desktop with action TRACKER_ACTION_CHECK and counter 0
Service Applications not supported yet
Processing /usr/share/applications/file-roller.desktop with action TRACKER_ACTION_CHECK and counter 0
Service Applications not supported yet
Processing /usr/share/applications/gnome-appearance-properties.desktop with action TRACKER_ACTION_CHECK and counter 0
Service Applications not supported yet
Processing /usr/share/applications/cddb-slave.desktop with action TRACKER_ACTION_CHECK and counter 0
Service Applications not supported yet
Processing /usr/share/applications/qtpfsgui.desktop with action TRACKER_ACTION_CHECK and counter 0
Service Applications not supported yet
...
Comment 4 Albert Zeyer 2008-04-05 09:59:46 UTC
The same problem:

...
	info->service_type_id = tracker_get_id_for_service (service);

	if (info->service_type_id == -1) {
		tracker_log ("Service %s not supported yet", service);
		return;
	}
...

And:

int
tracker_get_id_for_service (const char *service)
{
	char *name = g_utf8_strdown (service, -1);

	ServiceDef *def = g_hash_table_lookup (tracker->service_table, name);

	g_free (name);

	if (!def) {
		return -1;
	}

	return def->id;
}

Comment 6 Albert Zeyer 2008-04-08 12:57:19 UTC
Upstream bug was filled here: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=526296

It seems that some problems with the current DB results in this bug. Deleting the file ~/.local/share/tracker/data/common.db and running 'trackerd --reindex' after helped, it seems to index correctly now.

Perhaps this was because I used tracker-0.6.3 before and perhaps the DBs are incompatible with each other. In this case, there should be a hint in the ebuild of tracker-0.6.6-r1 which checks this.
Comment 7 Gilles Dartiguelongue (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2009-12-10 23:21:38 UTC
Tracker 0.6 is gone, 0.7.10 has been added to the tree and live ebuild has been updated to git repository with 0.7 deps. Please give them a shot. I'll start adding back tracker support to apps as patches come in. Thanks for your patience.
