After starting the mc, the error: mc: error while loading shared libraries: libslang-utf8.so.1: cannot open shared before last update it was ok. The use flag "unicode" is set. Bug (sort of) invalid. As slang 2 hit stable, whatever libslang-utf8.so.1 was got wiped out. Slang 2 supports utf8 natively. You need revdep-rebuild for slang.
Running revdep-rebuild is considered a good-practice after an upgrade. As we're a source-based distribution, we can't guarantee seemless upgrade path. Please run `revdep-rebuild` from the app-portage/gentoolkit package.
