Hello, using a ftp-mirror through squid (I haven't tested other proxies) fails on most text files. The problem is that wget will leave the proxy decide wether to fetch the file in ascii or binary. So all text files will get an 0d0a (fetched as text). I haven't found (nor searched) an workaround, but a quick google lookup found the following which describes the problem better than I. ;) http://www.geocrawler.com/archives/3/409/1999/6/0/2336937/ Files for testing are all *.c in usr/portage/distfiles, e.g. pdf.c, r128.c or ether-wake.c Regards, Alexander PS: I've marked the bug major, because I've bothered some ftp-mirror-admins to check if their files are correct. This is a really weired bug (in wget or squid?). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
which wget version ? which squid version ? i'm going through 2 squids without any problems
Any wget, any squid. I have this problem since many months, but noticing it seldom because I'm normally use a local rsync mirror and those *.c files are changing seldom. Try ftp://ftp.fu-berlin.de/unix/linux/mirrors/gentoo as mirror, this is a mirror which sends *.c as text. Regards, Alexander
not really a gentoo issue a) wrong config (ftpd) b) wrong squid config
Old bug. Should be CANTFIX.
