Description Christian Schlotter 2008-03-07 21:35:31 UTC
When updating my system I noticed that net-misc/networkmanager is displayed twice in one branch. I would expect portage to omit the first "nomerge" entry.

$ sudo emerge --ask --verbose --update --deep --tree world
[...]
[nomerge      ] net-misc/networkmanager-0.6.6 [0.6.5.98] USE="gnome -crypt -debug -doc"
[ebuild     U ]  gnome-extra/nm-applet-0.6.6 [0.6.5.98] USE="-debug -doc -libnotify" 764 kB
[ebuild     U ]   net-misc/networkmanager-0.6.6 [0.6.5.98] USE="gnome -crypt -debug -doc" 962 kB
[...]

In this case networkmanager was emerged before nm-applet.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:

$ emerge --info
 * Overlay eclass overrides eclass from PORTDIR:
 *
 *   '/usr/portage/local/layman/science/eclass/fortran.eclass'
 *
 * It is best to avoid overridding eclasses from PORTDIR because it will
 * trigger invalidation of cached ebuild metadata that is distributed with
 * the portage tree. If you must override eclasses from PORTDIR then you
 * are advised to run `emerge --regen` after each time that you run `emerge
 * --sync`. Set PORTAGE_ECLASS_WARNING_ENABLE="0" in /etc/make.conf if you
 * would like to disable this warning.

Then how would you know that nm-applet was pulled in by networkmanager? The current behavior is by design.
