Version 1.0.16 of ALSA has been released on 2008-02-06 (3 weeks ago).
This affects at least media-sound/alsa-headers, media-libs/alsa-lib and media-sound/alsa-utils.

This may even fix the issue where net-www/netscape-flash doesn't work correctly with alsa output, printing the alsa message "unknown format unchanged" when running in firefox. (Marking it "major" because of that.)
