Why what when? First of all, this bug is only for myself (for now) We have slang 2 in portage package.masked in different slot include patch renamed from slang to slang-2 and lib from slang to slang-2. It's a _major_ PITA for maintainers to use slang now. The situation is stale and not moving anywhere, basically we have ancient slang in default usage.. What needs to be done? - Version bump slang-2 to latest version. - Move it back to same slot with slang-1, and threat it as normal version bump and release it to ~arch, possibly with same KEYWORDS as slang-1 has - These libs and programs depend on slang, and needs to be tested (only latest versions): app-editors/fte app-admin/partgui app-backup/mondo-rescue app-editors/jed app-editors/lpe app-editors/nano app-emulation/dosemu app-misc/mc app-misc/slmon app-mobilephone/yaps app-shells/pdmenu dev-libs/newt dev-util/biew games-emulation/advancemenu media-libs/aalib media-libs/libcaca media-radio/tucnak1 media-sound/timidity++ media-video/freej net-analyzer/nettop net-analyzer/trafshow net-misc/tn5250 net-nntp/slrn sci-libs/gaul-devel sys-apps/most sys-block/partimage Note: Search for upstream version bumps and other distribution bugzillas for patches in case of failure.
Well, many of those already depend or can depend on slang-2. I've put a while ago a few bugs about it. Major exception is app-misc/mc, however IIRC it's cvs has depended on it for over 2 years (well, no releases for quite some time).
Closed in favour of bug 209416.
