I hadn't played for a while but it seems that after having upgraded my systems to ~amd64 and ~x86 respectively, none of the ut2004 series games can be played. Just wanted to mention that on my debian sid box that runs xorg from git, apparently version from january 18th 2008, ut2004 on that box runs fine. That was installed with the regular ut2004 installer, I wonder if the problem possibly has to do with some patch in the ut2004 ebuilds?
Okay, the version of xorg is 1.4.0.90-r2, after downgrading xorg-server to 1.3 series and the following list [ebuild UD] x11-proto/renderproto-0.9.2 [0.9.3] [ebuild UD] x11-libs/libXrender-0.9.2 [0.9.4] [ebuild UD] x11-drivers/xf86-input-evdev-1.1.5-r2 [1.2.0] [ebuild UD] x11-drivers/xf86-video-mga-1.4.6.1 [1.4.7] [ebuild UD] x11-base/xorg-server-1.3.0.0-r4 [1.4.0.90-r2] USE="nptl*" [ebuild UD] x11-drivers/xf86-input-keyboard-1.1.1-r1 [1.2.2] [ebuild UD] x11-drivers/xf86-input-joystick-1.2.2 [1.3.1] [ebuild UD] x11-base/xorg-x11-7.2 [7.3] I once again had a working mouse in ut2004. How is a mouse problem an issue with nvidia or ati drivers? Now if it was graphics corruption... http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=106679 http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=104363
Attach your xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log here. (In reply to comment #4) > How is a mouse problem an issue with nvidia or ati drivers? Now if it was > graphics corruption... @cardoe - x11-drivers@ != nvidia drivers (and if you dislike this, go create yourself a new alias and fix metadata.xml in nvidia-drivers finally, instead of bouncing bugs back and forth, I'm tired of this nonsense).
Created attachment 141690 [details] xorg.conf heres my xorg.conf
Created attachment 141691 [details] xorg.0.log My xorg log I just wanted to say I have downgraded xorg to the 1.3 series on this machine in order to avoid this problem. It immediately worked after downgrading.
I'm sorry but I never said this has anything to do with nvidia drivers but it DEFINITELY has something to do with xorg-server because after downgrading, ut2004 worked fine. It also probably has nothing to do with the ebuilds for ut2004 because when I tried installing ut2004 manually with the dvd, it had the very same problem.
I just wanted to mention that I installed ut2004 on a box with opensuse 10.3 and that box doesn't have any problems. The problem is definitely gentoo specific since it occurs on 3 gentoo boxes whether ut2004 is installed through the ebuild or the ut2004 installer. Is there a way to start ut2004 that will allow me to get some idea of whats going on? I can't believe more people aren't complaining about this.
When I upgraded to xorg-server-1.4.0.90-r2, several input-releated functions (middle mouse button paste, up arrow) stopped working. For instance, up arrow brought up Print Screen. Middle mouse button didn't paste anything. (All keys worked as expected without X in console mode.) Re-emerging xorg-server-1.3.0.0-r4 fixed things. (I also had to re-emerge x11-drivers/xf86-input-keyboard-1.1.1-r1, x11-drivers/synaptics-0.14.6-r1, x11-drivers/xf86-input-mouse-1.2.3, x11-drivers/xf86-video-sis-0.9.4.) BTW, I tried the hack suggested by the xf86-input-evdev emerge, but I saw no change in behavior. I will attach my current, working xorg.0.log and `emerge --info`.

Okay, we have found the problem on the forums thanks to Paul Bredbury. Problem is what to do about it. If you are running xorg-server 1.4* you need to start sdl games that use the mouse with export SDL_VIDEO_X11_DGAMOUSE=0 So I'm wondering what changed in xorg-server between version to cause this problem and what can be done about it instead of adjusting the startup scripts to include the above?
Problem is with dgamouse extension see here for a new libsdl ebuild to temporarily solve problem http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=209400
Hi, I'm running into the same keyboard problems as others have remarked. ( PgUp is /, PgDn is menu, up arrow is PrtSc,and many keys are nonfunctional. Control-Alt-backspace is not working either. ). Luckily, I use synaptics so my mouse works fine. I am pasting my emerge --info and will attach my Xorg.0.log and mt xorg.conf Portage 2.1.4.4 (!/usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/amd64/2007.0/desktop/, gcc-4.2.2, glibc-2.7-r2, 2.6.24-zen5 x86_64) (In reply to comment #16) Okay, after looking at the X.Org mailing list, I commented all Option "Xkb*" * lines in my xorg.conf, and now everything except my up arrow key is working fine.
(In reply to comment #14) > If you are running > xorg-server 1.4* you need to start sdl games that use the mouse > with > export SDL_VIDEO_X11_DGAMOUSE=0 thanks, this fixes the erratic mouse behaviour just for the record, I tried it with dosbox, another software affected is for example qemu ... someone should change the summary as this is not UT2004-specific problem
Hi all, Could those of you using ~arch systems try again DGA-enabled apps with xorg-server 1.6 and an up-to-date X stack? Thanks
Fixed in xorg-server 1.6 series
Thanks for the follow up! :)
