Eh, please post the actual emerge output next time, has nothing to do w/ Manifest being broken.

<snip>
Not found

The link /releases/mediastreamer could not be found. It was probably renamed or removed by the project team.

Moreover, there is no mediastreamer project hosted at Savannah. Please check the address.

vapier, when you commit something, then make sure that it at least downloads. Would also completely rock if you did actually stick yourself in metadata.xml instead of dumping a broken ebuild on a herd you are not even a member of and ignoring subsequent bugs.
Comment 5 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-01-17 09:16:39 UTC
The correct SRC_URI is http://download.savannah.nongnu.org/releases/linphone/mediastreamer/mediastreamer-2.1.0.tar.gz

(And please stop these ridiculous re-assign games).

i'm getting tired of your incessant nagging and unpleasantness. if you cannot communicate politely, stop communicating. i'm also not going to explain every single decision i make to you as that is a waste of my time.

this is the last time i'm going to do so:
 - voip is the obvious herd for this package, there is no "dumping". mediastreamer is clearly part of linphone and related to sip/rtp (which are all the obvious domain of voip). linphone is already using mediastreamer.
 - i apologize for not fixing bugs fast enough for your liking, but you're going to have to live with it. if the bugs arent fixed fast enough for you, then stop complaining to others and fix them yourself. barring that, you can wait for other developers to make time for bugs.
 - as for clearing out my entire system of mediastreamer and verifying that every single possible issue has been accounted for and the ebuild is bug free, i apologize for not being perfect and not thinking of everything.

I didn't communicate with you at all until you've started your re-assign games once again. I merely stated that the issue is a broken SRC_URI and has nothing to do with broken Manifest, and fixed the summary accordingly. Then I looked at who committed the ebuild and assigned the bug to that person, because it's obviously the guy who should fix that bug.

May I ask how on earth do you assume that people on voip@ alias are interested in fixing your broken ebuilds, with you not being the member of said team at all?

So this package is now maintainer-needed in fact? Well then go and remove it again. What you apparently don't get is that people don't want to get more broken unmaintained packages dumped on them (yeah, dumped... if you do the same w/ PHP stuff without asking, the ebuild will get removed instantly from the tree, and this is exact same issue perl folks have been complaining about for years and which caused that we now have ~700 ebuilds in dev-perl/)

If you don't want to maintain a package, then don't commit it, it's dead simple. You are doing it over and over and over again, there are tens of orphaned ebuilds in the tree due to these policy-breaking commits. Otherwise stick yourself to metadata.xml and you'll get the bugs assigned as it's the way how things work.

See above.

Nowhere did I complain about the bug not being fixed fast, I'm complaining about something completely different, which should be quite obvious.
Comment 8 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2008-01-17 09:58:06 UTC
i am not referring merely to this bug. you have a consistent history with unpleasantness in bugzilla that needs to be rectified.

to address your ridiculous "i'm not part of the voip herd": not that it's any of your business, but i already spoke with people from the voip herd and was told to go ahead with linphone updates in the tree.
Comment 9 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-01-17 10:11:11 UTC
/me notes that the time spent on this debate and re-assigning the bug could have been spent more productively on things like fixing the SRC_URI. ;)

As for my bugzilla history, this bug is not about the history of my comments, but rather about adding ebuilds to the tree with improper/missing metadata.xml - which is mainly your domain. :)
Comment 10 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2008-01-17 10:29:53 UTC
you're assuming i have the capabilities currently to make commits

and yes, your past behavior is relevant as you continue to exhibit the same stream of unproductive noise

and no, there is no voip requirement for <maintainer> to be set, so the metadata.xml is perfectly valid

there's a bug, it needs to get fixed, and your input is unwarranted and does not add anything useful. please refrain from such comment floods in the future.
Comment 11 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-01-17 10:50:51 UTC
There'd be absolutely no unproductive noise on this bug if you didn't start with your re-assign nonsense in the first place and instead fixed the bug. And yeah, I assume you have access to commit when you've committed stuff to portage-utils after you've re-assigned it and before this whole debate started here in Comment #4.

If you have issues with my comments, you know where to take them. Then someone could also investigate why certain people refuse to follow policies and keep committing stuff without metadata.xml, without leaving appropriate ChangeLog entries, why don't they remove themselves from keywording bugs once they are finished there and why they are wasting other people's time over and over again like this.

/me outta here with apologies to the reporter of this bug for having to read the above debate. You can grab the tarball from URL stated in Comment #5 if you need the package urgently.

Fixed.
Please, take your discussion somewhere else.
