I'd like to become a new rsync mirror server name: pan.ubishops.ca ip address: 206.167.194.175 location: Lennoxville, Quebec Canada contact information: Thomas Cort <tcort@cs.ubishops.ca> current setup until rsync1.us.gentoo.org access: rsync every :00 and :30 against rsync1.ca.gentoo.org (cs.ubishops.ca) ntp setup to sync with time.nrc.ca every night at 6:01PM Eastern Standard Time System specs: SunUltra 1 Creator, 200MHz UltraSparc CPU, 128MB RAM, 2 x 2.4GB HD, Linux-2.4.20 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
I've added 206.167.194.175 to the access list for rsync1.us.gentoo.org. Please update your rsync cron jobs to point to rsync1.us.gentoo.org and post back here when you've done so. We'll monitor the server for a couple days to make sure things are working fine and then add it to the rotation. Also, I'd like to verify the upstream connection and max user limit. Thanks.
> Please update your rsync cron jobs to point to rsync1.us.gentoo.org Done upstream connection: Dual OC-3 max user limit: 50
Is anything running on the server around 08:00 (date -uR)? I've recorded that syncs around then don't happen. Both dates in date -uR format, first colum is when I checked, the second is the timestamp on your server: 07:50:31 Wed, 04 Jun 2003 07:32:00 +0000 - OK 08:20:43 Wed, 04 Jun 2003 07:32:00 +0000 - expected 08:00 08:50:30 Wed, 04 Jun 2003 07:32:00 +0000 - expected 08:30 09:20:31 Wed, 04 Jun 2003 09:02:00 +0000 - OK 07:50:04 Thu, 05 Jun 2003 07:32:00 +0000 - OK 08:20:04 Thu, 05 Jun 2003 07:32:00 +0000 - expected 08:00 08:50:03 Thu, 05 Jun 2003 07:32:00 +0000 - expected 08:30 09:20:04 Thu, 05 Jun 2003 09:02:00 +0000 - OK
I seem to be getting some errors. Do you have any ideas? regarding the errors you're seeing, can you try adding: --timeout=300 to your rsync string that you use to sync with rsync1.us? Thanks.
I just added --timeout=300 to my script.
Monitoring again.
I've tested this out and it's working fine. Have added this mirror as rsync3.ca.gentoo.org, also in the rsync.ca.gentoo.org and rsync.namerica.gentoo.org dns sets. Closing this bug.. Thanks for your time and resources. Cheers!
Note that this server (pan.ubishops.ca) is not updating its data often enough. Both times I've encountered it recently, it has delivered really old data that is 10-11 hours old (as juged by the timestamp.x file and the regression of other files in portage). I wll file a new bug report on this, but I thought I'd mention it here first, just in case the folks attached to this bug might like an early warning.
