/bin/arch is deprecated and not installed by default by util-linux-ng in favour of one from coreutils. But that requires coreutils >=6.9.90 (beta version not in portage). Adding: --enable-arch to util-linux econf creates it.
v2.13-ReleaseNotes: arch(1) is deprecated in favor of "uname -m" or arch(1) from coreutils (>= 6.9+). The util-linux-ng package doesn't build arch by default, you have to use the option --enable-arch.
Exactly. But it's not actually >=6.9, it's >=6.9.90 which is not in portage.
We don't install it on purpose, use uname -m.
