Description Alexander Skwar 2007-12-22 22:26:07 UTC
With net-libs/libnfsidmap-0.20, the library libnfsidmap.so.0 is placed in /usr/lib. That's extremely bad in so far, as coreutils links against this lib and if /usr is on a seperate partition, certain essential tools, like ls or find, cannot be run during boot.

quirl / # ldd `which ls`
        linux-gate.so.1 =>  (0xffffe000)
        librt.so.1 => /lib/librt.so.1 (0xb7f03000)
        libacl.so.1 => /lib/libacl.so.1 (0xb7ef8000)
        libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0xb7dc2000)
        libpthread.so.0 => /lib/libpthread.so.0 (0xb7daa000)
        /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0xb7f18000)
        libattr.so.1 => /lib/libattr.so.1 (0xb7da5000)
        libnfsidmap.so.0 => /usr/lib/libnfsidmap.so.0 (0xb7d9e000)

It might very well be, that coreutils doesn't directly link against this lib. It seems to be, that this lib is a "dependency" of libacl and thus of the "acl" USE flag.

quirl / # ldd /lib/libacl.so.1
        linux-gate.so.1 =>  (0xffffe000)
        libattr.so.1 => /lib/libattr.so.1 (0xb7f87000)
        libnfsidmap.so.0 => /usr/lib/libnfsidmap.so.0 (0xb7f80000)
        libc.so.6 => /lib/libc.so.6 (0xb7e4a000)
        /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x80000000)

But that's an unimportant detail, as the main problem is, that the system doesn't boot if the lib is on /usr and if that's on a seperate (LV) partition.
