Description Ed Davison 2007-12-12 04:09:47 UTC
I have finally completed an upgrade of gnome and now that I have done so I have unresolved dependencies with several packages, namely evolution and gnucash. When evolution is emerged it fails to resolve dependencies properly. I have already emerged it 3+ times and the result is always the same, it links in libgailutil.so.17 when I have libgailutil.so.18 on my system.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge evolution -or- emerge gnucash

Actual Results:
Fails to properly resolve libgailutil.so.18 but rather links in libgailutil.so.17 (which does not exist).

edavison@ebdhome ~ $ evolution
evolution: error while loading shared libraries: libgailutil.so.17: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
edavison@ebdhome ~ $ ldd /usr/bin/evolution | grep libgail
        libgailutil.so.17 => not found
        libgailutil.so.18 => /usr/lib/libgailutil.so.18 (0xb6ac3000)

Expected Results:
Proper emerge so that evolution actually runs.

Run revdep-rebuild.

Comment 3 Ed Davison 2007-12-13 15:14:28 UTC
I did run revdep-rebuild and it did not come up with evolution as something that needed to be rebuild; it did, however, find lots of packages that did not exist in portage and I had to manually upgrade them to get revdep-rebuild to complete properly.

Still, at that point the dependency was not completely resolved.

Per a forum posting suggestion, I manually emerged gnomecanvas (as a shot in the dark) and it fixed it.
