There is some bug inside the gtk+ since version 2.10.12 (approximately). This bug occurs if GTK_POLICY_NEVER used for scrolling policy. But since there is no fix yet available (at least I have not found one) I think that hotfix of evince may be useful. I will attach the ebuild for 0.8.3 and patch Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Try to open any document and resize the sidebar. It will grow up with discrete step. There is bug submitted at GNOME bugzilla Bug 449462 – side panel after broadened can not be smaller again http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=449462

I've only overlooked upstream bug, but wouldn't this cause the thumbnail column to shrink but have scrollbars instead of reflowing the thumbnails ? Also please submit a patch instead of the full ebuild if/when attaching one, thanks.

I haven't noticed any scrollbars changes in patched version. It works fine for me.
As a data point, this works fine for me with gtk+ 2.12.1 and evince 2.20.1.
0.8 versions are gone from the tree. Thanks for the time you put into it anyway. Closing wontfix since we obsiouvly won't now.
