upgrading libdvdread from 0.9.3 to 0.9.4 removed /usr/lib/libdvdread.so.2, 
which stopped mplayer from working (and mplayerplug-in, which is how I 
noticed the problem).  Loading a web page that required mplayer
(http://www.apple.com/trailers/) reported the error:

     "gmplayer: error while loading shared libraries: libdvdread.so.2: 
     "cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"

As a quick fix, I linked libdvdread.so.2 to libdvdread.so.3.0.0

just recompile mplayer
