I'd like to see the cxacru firmware (I can give a copy to you) in an ebuild. It is needed for the Conexant AccessRunner USB ADSL Modem to work. Actual Results: I have to manually load the firmware into /lib/firmware Expected Results: emerge the firmware would create the needed /lib/firmware files
Created attachment 130288 [details] The modem's firmware (from CnxEtU.sys) To be put in /lib/firmware
Created attachment 130290 [details] The modem's boot image (from WBoot.hex) To be put in /lib/firmware
The question is whether we have the rights to redistribute these files or not. Do you know the license they're released under?

Here are the modem's GPL drivers: These drivers are shipped with the modem drivers' CD, and contain a driver (not really needed, because there's cxacru support into the kernel) and the firmware. http://www.forzazzurri.mine.nu/data/USBNET_E2_LINUX_110502_REL11a_E.tar.gz
http://accessrunner.sourceforge.net/firmware.shtml says the firmware cannot be distributed. The link you gave doesn't even compile. If somebody makes a pair of ebuilds, one for the extraction tool, and a second RESTRICT=fetch ebuild for the actual conversion, then we can maybe work something out, but this ain't going to fly until then.
