New version. zdaemon and it's dependencies have been split out, separate ebuilds have been filed there. Tested on amd64, new version is working just fine.

According to the ZODB docs packages zope.interface zope.proxy and zope.testing are dependencies. The ebuilds are trivial and I can attach them here if necessary. But your ebuild doesn't add them - is there a reason?
See bug #191260 and it's dependency tree. I already filed ebuild bugs for all of those. You may be right in that they are also required by 3.7.0.
zeopack and friends won't work - the directory they're in isn't installed, even though the wrapper scripts are, so when you run the executable file you get an import error. The README in ZODB3-3.7.2/src/ZEO/scripts says that only some of the scripts get installed with distutils install; I don't see the point of installing the executable wrapper without the scripts. Following will copy the script dirs into the install: src_unpack() { unpack ${A} sed -i -e 's/packages = \[/packages=\["ZEO.scripts","ZODB.scripts",/' ${S}/setup.py }
