Yes, it does sound normal(as far as a misdownload) but it isn't. When I tried emerge gnome, it got pretty far(2/3) until the emerge of gdm(2.4.1.3 I think), which stated that the checksum for the gentoo-gdm-themes.tar.bz2 file was incorrect. Now, I tried this several times(I d/l it about four times), and even tried installing it different ways(used the ebuild, the tarball and the normal way) and nothing worked. I even downloaded the next to last version to see if this fixed it, but it did not. I have a feeling this is something obvious, but I asked around a little(really little) if anyone knew about this problem, and no one did. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.emerge gnome 2. 3. Actual Results: I get an error that the checksum is invalid for gentoo-gdm-themes.tar.bz2 Expected Results: Installed it correctly so I would have GDM. I was in the terminal, emerging kde as well. I have an AMD Athlon XP 2200+ 512 MBs DDR RAM, Asus Nvidia nForce motherboards.

which mirror are you downloading from ? i've tried both the ibibilo and mirror.ac.uk and it downloads the valid file, so it seem there's something wrong with the mirror you're getting it from. also you could try : GENTOO_MIRRORS="" emerge gdm to force it to not use any mirrors.
yeah, the digest may have been out of sync a few days ago for at most a couple of hours, but that shouldn't be a problem anymore.
