Description Damien Thébault 2007-08-10 23:40:42 UTC
install_qa_check stops because there is a "type-punned pointer" dereferencement.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge net-libs/librsync-0.9.7 with FEATURES="stricter"

Actual Results:
Currently, merging net-libs/librsync-0.9.7 with FEATURES="stricter" gives this

| * QA Notice: Package has poor programming practices which may compile
| * fine but exhibit random runtime failures.
| * readsums.c:117: warning: dereferencing type-punned pointer will break
|strict-aliasing rules
| netint.c:133: warning: dereferencing type-punned pointer will break
|strict-aliasing rules

Expected Results:
Merging works without any complain.

librsync-0.9.7-qa.patch

This patch solves the issuse (but I don't really know if it's the good way to do this).
Comment 2 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-08-11 04:23:14 UTC
Thanks, but such stuff really belongs upstream. FEATURES=stricter is not intended for users.
Comment 3 Ryan Hill (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-10-06 20:34:09 UTC
warnings are highly dependent on compiler version. this is just one of many packages that give code warnings when built. please send patches to the upstream authors.
