Description Peter Volkov (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-07-16 09:02:53 UTC
Hello.

Portage now warns about missing profiles/repo_name file. But could anybody explain what are the valid names there? Should we follow this: http://paludis.pioto.org/faq.html#repo_name ?

Thanks in advance.

Fortunately not any more.

This belong to PMS, IMO.

In that case it's ALREADYFIXED because it's already there.

But a short mention in man portage wouldn't hurt.

PMS should probably contain a pattern for names reserved for local use (e.g. 'local-*')
Comment 4 Ciaran McCreesh 2008-03-17 11:14:25 UTC
Do we have such a pattern? Paludis effectively treats *virtuals* as its own. Is anything else reserved?
Comment 5 Marius Mauch (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-03-17 12:52:27 UTC
With local I meant for use by the local user to avoid name collisions with external overlays. Not a strict rule maybe but a strong recommendation.
Comment 6 Ciaran McCreesh 2008-03-17 18:01:01 UTC
Hrm, I'd say that that's purely a policy thing rather than a package manager requirement, so it's not something we'd stick in PMS.

Closing this as fixed, since repo_name is in PMS as per the original request.
