Something like this would fit into eclass more than ebuild which could then be reused on other ebuilds as well. I maintain, or help maintain dozens if not hundred or over ebuilds and it would mean I'd have to add this hack to everyone of those.. including entire xfce-*/*. 

I'm not eager to do so.

If you end up writing us a linguas.eclass, that would get a better welcome I'd bet.

besides, this patch shouldn't be needed for packages generated with a correct version of intltool (>0.35.4 or <0.35.1 iirc).
