Description Chad Walstrom 2007-06-06 19:09:03 UTC
I'm assuming the TDS mirror is filtering out "cruft" files. The Manifest for nfs-utils contains a file named "nfs.confd.old", which is obviously not being copied over to the TDS mirror.

One of two solutions: fix the nfs-utils manifest so that it doesn't depend upon an obviously poorly named file or inform public rsync sites that *.old isn't cruft.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. /usr/bin/rsync --list-only --recursive --links --perms --times --devices --delete --timeout=300 rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage/net-fs/nfs-utils/files/ /tmp/
2. /usr/bin/rsync --list-only --recursive --links --perms --times --devices --delete --timeout=300 rsync://gentoo.mirrors.tds.net/gentoo-portage/net-fs/nfs-utils/files/ /tmp/
3. Compare

Actual Results:
Here is what the TDS mirror SHOULD contain:

/usr/bin/rsync --list-only --recursive --links --perms --times --devices --delete --timeout=300 rsync://gentoo.mirrors.tds.net/gentoo-portage/net-fs/nfs-utils/files/ /tmp/

Comment 1 Robert Baxter 2007-06-06 23:25:03 UTC
which digest are you looking at...
ftp://mirrors.tds.net/pub/gentoo-portage/net-fs/nfs-utils/files/digest-nfs-utils-1.0.12
says nothing about nfs.confd.old..?
Comment 2 Chad Walstrom 2007-06-07 15:10:35 UTC
The current emerge, when building nfs-utils-1.0.12, complained about a missing file from the Manifest. If you look at the Manifest file itself, you will see that nfs.confd.old is indeed hashed and accounted for.
Comment 3 Chad Walstrom 2007-06-07 15:12:04 UTC
Not only complained, but refused to build nfs-utils. Sorry about not clarifying. I do not have the text for the error, but if you search the forums, you will see that I'm not the only person having this problem.

just the TDS mirror is broken
Comment 6 Shyam Mani (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-07-02 13:28:21 UTC
Shane, can you please take a look at this?
Comment 7 Shane Brath 2007-07-02 18:18:35 UTC
This is what I use to sync:
/usr/bin/rsync -avC --exclude="historical" --stats --timeout=600 --delete --delete-after rsync1.us.gentoo.org::gentoo-portage /u01/archives/gentoo-portage

Not sure why the "-C" option is enables, it has been removed and is now working poroperly.
Comment 8 Shyam Mani (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-07-04 17:47:03 UTC
Thanks for responding quickly Shane.

You need the -C btw, to ignore the CVS files. It shouldn't break anything, but you should have it or you'll be dumping the CVS folder into everyone who syncs off you, which is bad. Can you re-enable, upgrade the rsync to the latest version and if you're still seeing errors, let me know?
Comment 9 Shyam Mani (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2007-08-16 16:41:12 UTC
Timeout, no response.
Comment 10 Shane Brath 2007-08-16 16:49:44 UTC
I Have added the -c flag now.
