To have a history in kopete you need the history-plugin. With kde-base/kopete-3.5.6-r1 this is done with the history-useflag. With kdenetwork, this useflag is not used - resulting in a missing history. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.just emerge kdenetwork 2.use kopete 3.shocked about missing history Expected Results: kopete should not have no history - so I really expected to have it. the 'history' useflag is set...
Please take a look at kde-base/kopete's USE flags: jingle sametime ssl xscreensaver slp kernel_linux latex crypt winpopup sms irc yahoo gadu groupwise netmeeting statistics autoreplace connectionstatus contactnotes translator webpresence texteffect highlight alias autoreplace history nowlistening addbookmarks kdehiddenvisibility You expect kopete to have history by default - others might expect statistics to be always available. Which USE flags should we choose to add? And wouldn't we get even more bug reports if we made some arbitrary choice? If we added *all* USE flags (for all components of kdenetwork) on the other hand, it would become a total mess. If you want full control over kopete's features, please use kde-base/kopete. I hope you can understand why we won't change this - let's keep Pandora's Box closed. ;-)
Well, I was extremly pissed when I looked out for a history to retrieve some important stuff - and it wasn't there. If you add all the kopete flags to kdenetwork there wouldn't much left. At least a big fat warning, that all the stuff that kdenetwork is installing is completly crippled should be added.
