Installed gentoo from 1.4 rc3 stage 1 CD and emerged gnome (2.2.1, I believe). Upon first login it reported that xscreensaver could not be found. Had to emerge Xscreensaver separately to correct the problem and enable the Lock panel button. Apologies if this is done incorrectly, first time :) Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Expected Results: The gnome ebuild (or perhaps Xfree?) should have had an dependency on Xscreensaver.
well, its technically not a dependency of Gnome, but a nice feature to add to it. This is why its not installed as an explicit dependency of Gnome, and the dialog about it is a one-time thing which serves as a nice reminder for users. I consider the current behaviour "preferred", unless a USE flag could/Would be added or used to include this.
Sorry, this bug is a duplicate of at least bugs 12897 and bug 6113. It appears the "New Bug" page search doesn't include RESOLVED bugs, leading me to believe it had not been reported before. My apologies
