Description spiritus 2007-04-02 17:00:20 UTC
Cut'n'paste using gpm is broken on UTF8 system: all national characters are replaced by spaces when pasted from clipboard by middle bouse button click.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Select some text containing national characters on UTF8-enabled system by mouse on tty console
2. Paste it by middle mouse button click.
Actual Results:
See no national characters pasted, only spaces instead of them. ASCII have been copied correctly.

I do it all the time, and it works just fine. You'll have to provide more info about your console configuration.

I have seen exactly the same problem with gpm with the same locale ru_RU.UTF-8 in FC6.
Comment 3 Nuno Silva 2008-06-08 10:53:29 UTC
This happens here too:

Original text: áàaéiáç
Pasted text: ai

(In elinks the non-ascii characters are pasted as squares, in Emacs, they will be pasted as if there was misunderstanding regarding encoding (two chars, like utf8 rendered as iso8859-1).)

Comment 4 Pacho Ramos gentoo-dev 2010-08-28 10:29:04 UTC
I don't suffer this problem with 1.20.6
Comment 5 Nuno Silva 2010-10-24 20:18:13 UTC
Here it is working fine now (1.20.6 too).

Although this is not the same system where the problem was observed (I'm unable to test this on that gentoo install, it's gone), I doubt this would depend on, e.g., architecture. I suppose the problem was fixed upstream.
