As there is now a kopete OTR plugin available (bug#171954), kopete should depend on it when having USE="crypt".

The following attachment does the necessary changes to RDEPEND of the kopete ebuild.

The ebuild with the new RDPEND for kopete-otr when having USE="crypt".

General question: should such modified ebuilds be submitted as the same version they were initially or should they be rev-bumped like I did it here 3.5.6 -> 3.5.6-r1?

you should submit them as unified diff. If it makes sense to bump ebuilds the developer usually takes care of that.

diff -u old new > unified.diff

I've committed an updated ebuild as -r1 for this.
