It sees invalid version specs as invalid. In this case its behaviour is correct. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 166522 ***
Then the mplayer ebuild should take an other version which is valid.
Bug #166522 was closed as INVALID and multiply suffixes are now supported.
And supported they have been for a while now.
