Xine has posted a new completely rewritten plugin for mozilla browsers that allows for the viewing of video content inside the browser. The plugin is available on Xine's download page under mozilla-plugin or from sourceforge. Reproducible: Always
Oh, here is the link to the plugin on sourceforge: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=9655
Created attachment 110941 [details] preliminary xine-plugin-1.0 ebuild Here is a preliminary ebuild for xine-plugin. I tested it with Firefox 2.0.0.1, it works, but does not seem to work as well as mplayerplug-in. Not sure if the ebuild is borked, or if the plugin just doesn't work well. Comments welcome, let me know how it works.
Looks great. I can report that the plugin also works on Opera 9.10, so you can go ahead and add www-net/opera to the deps list with the other browsers, that is what I did and everything works great. Um, I am on a slow connection so I can not really speak to the performance, but remember this is a rewrite, so I know I am not expecting it to be as good as mplayer, but for those of us that only have xine installed, this plugin definitely beats the alternative.
Created attachment 111219 [details, diff] xine-plugin ebuild patch Changed dependency list to allow Opera, and description to reflect that.
Looks like 1.0.1 was released in April too. Not sure what changed so don't know if ebuild would change much, but I doubt it.
xine-plugin 1.0.2 was released on 26.07.2008. It is suppose to work with Firefox 3 apparently.
(In reply to comment #6) > xine-plugin 1.0.2 was released on 26.07.2008. It is suppose to work with > Firefox 3 apparently. > Works great -- Firefox 3.0.5 (x86_64)
(this is an automated message based on filtering criteria that matched this bug) 'EBUILD' is in the KEYWORDS which should mean that there is a ebuild attached to this bug. This bug is assigned to maintainer-wanted which means that it is not in the main tree. Heuristics show that no Gentoo developer has commented on your ebuild. Hello, The Gentoo Team would like to firstly thank you for your ebuild submission. We also apologize for not being able to accommodate you in a timely manner. There are simply too many new packages. Allow me to use this opportunity to introduce you to Gentoo Sunrise. The sunrise overlay[1] is a overlay for Gentoo which we allow trusted users to commit to and all users can have ebuilds reviewed by Gentoo devs for entry into the overlay. So, the sunrise team is suggesting that you look into this and submit your ebuild to the overlay where even *you* can commit to. =) Because this is a mass message, we are also asking you to be patient with us. We anticipate a large number of requests in a short time. Thanks, On behalf of the Gentoo Sunrise Team, Jeremy.
