media-video/totem-2.16.4 doesn't play ogg/vorbis files anymore even with the "vorbis" use flag. (Of course I did emege -uND world && revdeb-rebuild) I checked and media-plugins/gst-plugins-vorbis is installed. It has no proble reading mp3 files. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Launch Totem 2.Open a ogg file 3.Try to play it Actual Results: It says (translated from french) "The vobis codec is not managed, you may need to install extra plugins" Expected Results: It should play my favourite music w/ encoded in my favourite format # emerge --info Portage 2.1.2-r9 (default-linux/x86/2006.0, gcc-4.1.1, glibc-2.5-r0, 2.6.19-gentoo-r5 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.19-gentoo-r5 i686 Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1400MHz Gentoo Base System release 1.12.9 Timestamp of tree: Thu, 15 Feb 2007 07:50:01 +0000 distcc 2.18.3 i686-pc-linux-gnu (protocols 1 and 2) (default port 3632) [disabled] dev-java/java-config: 1.3.7, 2.0.31 dev-lang/python: 2.4.3-r4 dev-python/pycrypto: 2.0.1-r5 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.17 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.61 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r2, 1.10 sys-devel/binutils: 2.16.1-r3 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.3.14 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.22 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.17-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O2 -march=pentium-m -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/3.5/env /usr/kde/3.5/share/config /usr/kde/3.5/shutdown /usr/share/X11/xkb /usr/share/config" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/env.d /etc/env.d/java/ /etc/gconf /etc/java-config/vms/ /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/splash /etc/terminfo" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -march=pentium-m -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig distlocks metadata-transfer sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://ftp.club-internet.fr/pub/mirrors/gentoo " LANG="fr_FR.utf8" LC_ALL="fr_FR.utf8" LINGUAS="fr" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --delete-after --stats --timeout=180 --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage /usr/portage/local/layman/xeffects" SYNC="rsync://rsync.europe.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X alsa apache2 apm arts berkdb bitmap-fonts cdr cli cracklib crypt cups dbus dlloader dri dvd dvdr eds emboss encode esd firefox foomaticdb fortran gdbm gif gnome gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 iconv imlib ipv6 isdnlog java jpeg libg++ libwww mad midi mikmod mmx motif mp3 mpeg ncurses nls nptl nptlonly nsplugin nvidia ogg opengl oss pam pcre perl png pppd python qt qt3 qt4 quicktime readline reflection samba sdl session spell spl sse sse2 ssl tcpd truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts unicode vorbis x86 xml xorg xv zlib" ALSA_CARDS="ali5451 als4000 atiixp atiixp-modem bt87x ca0106 cmipci emu10k1 emu10k1x ens1370 ens1371 es1938 es1968 fm801 hda-intel intel8x0 intel8x0m maestro3 trident usb-audio via82xx via82xx-modem ymfpci" ALSA_PCM_PLUGINS="adpcm alaw asym copy dmix dshare dsnoop empty extplug file hooks iec958 ioplug ladspa lfloat linear meter mulaw multi null plug rate route share shm softvol" ELIBC="glibc" INPUT_DEVICES="synaptics keyboard mouse wacom" KERNEL="linux" LCD_DEVICES="bayrad cfontz cfontz633 glk hd44780 lb216 lcdm001 mtxorb ncurses text" LINGUAS="fr" USERLAND="GNU" VIDEO_CARDS="nvidia" Unset: CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, INSTALL_MASK, LDFLAGS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS
Do you also have media-plugins/gst-plugins-ogg installed?
He has the ogg use flag, which should pull in the ogg gstreamer plugin, assuming it's not built with xine. François, could you paste the output of: emerge -pv totem Totem plays ogg-vorbis fine here, with the gstreamer backend.
Hi everybody ! media-plugins/gst-plugins-ogg is installed, herer is the output of # emerge -pv totem These are the packages that would be merged, in order: Calculating dependencies... done! [ebuild R ] media-video/totem-2.16.4 USE="a52 dbus dvd firefox flac gnome mad mpeg nsplugin ogg theora vorbis xine xv -debug -ffmpeg -hal -lirc -nvtv" 1,778 kB
Okay, that's what I thought. You have xine in your use flags, so you're using the xine bakend, not the gstreamer one. Did you build xine-lib with the vorbis use flag?
Yes xine-lib is compiled with the vorbis use flag (which is in make.conf by the way).
By the way I can play ogg files w/out any problem w/ gxine, so I guess the problem doesn't come from xine...
i can reproduce this too i'll search on upstream bugs for this issue.
