Description Patrick Twohig 2007-01-20 06:38:08 UTC
I have the latest portage snapshot (current as of 19 Jan 2007) and I'm getting an error while trying to merge wine 0.9.29. It appears that the ebuild is causing gcc to segfault. Here's the topmost build error:

ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge wine

i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc -c -I. -I. -I../../../include -I../../../include   -D_REENTRANT -fPIC -Wall -pipe -fno-strict-aliasing -Wdeclaration-after-statement -Wwrite-strings -Wpointer-arith  -march=athlon-xp -O3 -pipe  -o vartest.o vartest.c
vartest.c: In function 'test_VarAnd':
vartest.c:5332: internal compiler error: Segmentation fault
Please submit a full bug report,
with preprocessed source if appropriate.
See <URL:http://bugs.gentoo.org/> for instructions.
The bug is not reproducible, so it is likely a hardware or OS problem.

Some other things that are useful, I hope. The output of emerge --info.

The preprocessed source spears to be too large to clip and paste here, but I'll put it somewhere if needs be.

Anyhow....thanks a bunch ^_^
I sincerely apologize if I'm filing a redundant report.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
All I tried to do was:

ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge wine

Actual Results:
It appears that something causeed gcc to segfault.

Expected Results:
The source to compile smoothly.

The only thing that was different is that I was running the install in a screen window, I seriously doubt that has any effect though.
Comment 1 Patrick Twohig 2007-01-20 08:17:29 UTC
So it happened twice, but on the last try it did compile. However, I did notice that when it got to the file vartest.c the memory usage of gcc went up very high and it started to suck up CPU usage to the point where my mp3 player skipped and the system hung for a few seconds. I flagged the bug as, "Repeatable every time" it's evidently not. However, something is definitely awry when the it gets to that file. Perhaps the compilation process is entering a very deep recursive call or something.

Don't compile w/ -O3
