upgrading to gcc 4.1.1 according to Gentoo guide
doing: emerge -eav system
while emerging gibc:

So remove fPIC from your C[XX]FLAGS and don't stick such stuff there.

Not to mention things like -march=pentium-mmx accompanied by CHOST="i486-pc-linux-gnu"; how the heck is this supported to work?

thank you!  Please tell me what setting I should have.  These setting were recommended,  I know this 'cause I have no Idea what -fPIC means.

Yes, I am trying to do that right now, at this very moment, could you please tell me what the default settings would be? please?

I am doing my best, not being a very experienced user, so you could keep beating me over the head with my inexperience or you could show me how to do it right. ;o)
