New version of mplayer released. It is currently in portage, but a 32-bit binary update would be really nice. Thanks.
I don't use mplayer-bin anymore, since the native mplayer started playing all the video I watch. I'm trying to find someone else to take over mplayer-bin. Have you tried the native mplayer? Chances are, it works for you too...
Hey, looks pretty good. While it does require more testing, this is definately a step in the right direction. I guess the new ffmpeg has something to do with this?
Yes, it's the result of ffmpeg
I have run into a few codec problems with the new mplayer, so it looks like I will have to stick to mplayer-bin.

libavcodec still cannot decode complex profile wmv9's, thus mplayer-bin is still a requirement for these files. As the -rc1 release incorporates many improvements over the -pre8 (i.e. ASS support), I am definitely in favour of a bumped release.
I've been having trouble with vp6 encoded video streams; while rc1 claims to support it, it has not worked for me. I've heard that vp6 support has improved in subsequent betas of ffmpeg but apparently not the release used for mplayer-1.0_rc1.
