Created attachment 103168 [details, diff] fix This is a bug in lirc. This patch sets the work dir in the version checking code and solves the problem. Please add to portage and send upstream.
This is fixed in lirc-0.8.0-r8. Thanks to dsd for the patch, I already sent it to lirc-ML.
Thank you. It emerges perfectly now.

The error is the same and I've just noticed that it is common to other packages which build using kernel sources (as nvidia-driver). This happens building against 2.6.19-r1 while there's no problem emerging against 2.6.18-r3 (it applies to lirc and nvidia-drivers too). Any clue? What kind of information may I offer to help solving the problem?
@Nicola Tuveri: If you think a Bug is not yet solved, then please reopen it. (Now I did it myself.)
@Nicola Tuveri: Can you please attach full output of emerge lirc, and your kernel-.config file.
Created attachment 103550 [details, diff] fix to linux-info.eclass @Nicola Tuveri: Can you please apply this change to /usr/portage/eclass/linux-info.eclass and try it again.

Comment on attachment 103582 [details] Output of emerge lirc I've just tried. Unluckely it doesn't fix the problem. I'm attaching the complete output of emerge lirc and my kernel config.
*** Bug 158765 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
It seems to be an x86_64 only problem as i have the same problem with alsa-driver-1.0.14_rc1 and it compiles without problems on x86 (see https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=158678)
I also have this problem with actual ndiswrapper
I'm having this bug since the udev-useflag was removed. It does not recompile now. As far as I read this may be connected to upgraded kernel sources: Using ck-sources-2.6.19-ck2 and I am having this bug.
