Just done an install from blank, re-emerged gcc (and world) with use flag "fortran", and trying to emerge sci-mathematics/octave-2.1.69 (the stable) fails with "No fortran compiler found on the system! Please add fortran to your use flags and reemerge gcc" Upon Investigation I found that the symbolic link 'gfortran-4.1.1' exists in the /usr/bin directory, however no other symbolic links do, and creating one named 'g77' allowed octave to start emerging, but it fails with some compiler errors.
