Description winona 2006-11-10 18:13:36 UTC
I had to apply this patch in order to get ivtv 0.80 to load on x86 2.6.18-r1 as well as 2.6.18-r2. Without the patch the system would hang. I never tried the 2.6.17 kernels because they seemed to do the same thing when I tried. I gave up at the time and stayed with the 2.6.16 kernel.
   The 2.6.16 kernels had been working fine

This seems to be a gentoo problem since the two on the ivtv list as well as me are all using gentoo.

I can add to this saying I had the same problem. Looked as though i2c-adapter was stalling my system. But on closer inspection, it was ivtv!

I added the patch (even though it says the patch is for 0.7.0 or 0.7.1 it works for 0.8.0 as well, with a bit of changing to line numbers.)

I'm running ~amd64

MAKEOPTS="-j2"

Same problem here on my 2.6.18.2 Pegasos2 with udev-103 & ivtv-0.8.1.
Commenting out the "firmware" line in /etc/udev/50-udev.rules
solves the problem for me

Looks like a duplicate of bug #147006.
