Searching for a way to install Gentoo on my notebook (evo n600c) I was unable to continue the installation process due to overheating. After some investigation I found the problem into ACPI which stopped my fan even if I turned it ALWAY on from the BIOS settings. I tried to disable ACPI using the suggested switch (acpi=no) but with no success. Searching through Google gives me the righ switch acpi=off. Passing this value to the gentoo boot correctly disable ACPI making my fan working again. Now I've installed my Gentoo Linux! Best Regards Luca de Giorgi Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. boot using the LiveCD 2. pass the acpi=no at the boot prompt 3. Actual Results: The ACPI switched off the fan causing the processor to overheat. The notebook switched off. Expected Results: There is a wrong indication about wich acpi parameter to pass at the kernel boot. The correct one is: acpi=off
