Description Mike Gatto 2006-11-05 12:47:50 UTC
Hi, I downloaded the home version of Applixware 6.0a (free as in beer for Linux, non-commercial uses). I've installed per its directions and the application (a binary) works without any libc errors or such. However, when I run the licence server so the applications will start up, I get an error saying the hostname is unknown. The licence file has the same hostname as is echoed by running 'hostname' in Konsole. The licence server creates two sockets in /tmp/.

Vistasource states there is no tech support for this version, so I cannot confirm with them if the software can run on Gentoo (that is, is it compatible with gentoo's baselayout, given they said its been tested on RedHat and Suse and have intall instructions specific to Ubuntu 6.06.)

Applixware reports my kernel as 2.4; is this the source of the problem? Is it fixable without getting a new binary or having to use it in vmware?

I'm afraid this is some mistake??? We don't support Applixware, it's not in the tree at all, why did you file this to Gentoo bugzilla?
Comment 2 Mike Gatto 2006-11-05 16:54:48 UTC
I filed it because the software works on other distros, but not Gentoo. I had hoped to resolve it myself instead of begging someone else to make an ebuild for it...

For support we have forums.gentoo.org or IRC channels on Freenode, not Bugzilla. Thanks.
