More specifically, I'm able to browse www.google.com just fine - but when I try to view my home directory, that's when the crash occurs.

I think in order to find out what's going on we'll need the backtrace with debugging symbols.  Probably ought to re-emerge kdelibs and konqueror with the debug use flag and nostrip in features, then try and recreate the problem.

If you can get a longer debug output for the crash, you might want to report it to bugs.kde.org, but as such I don't think we can fix this.
