Tracker is a new search tool, similar to Beagle, but claiming to be better, more memory efficient, and is written in C. Details can be found here:
http://www.gnome.org/~jamiemcc/tracker/

Tracker's been proposed for inclusion in GNOME 2.18, so we are probably bound to hear about it.
