alexander, is this just a version update?
I needed the latest version for some scheme stuff I got from the net and thougt i could just publish my ebuild right away. I'm not that much of an programmer or even ebuild-maintainer, but it seemed to work right out of the box.
this might be handled better by someone more in the know about its interaction with gnome (last time i ran into a guile update there were problems with its compatibility with gnome)
<SNIP extra info site> 2003-02-01 We are pleased to announce Guile release 1.6.3. This is the next maintenance release for the 1.6 stable series. You can find it here. This is primarily a bugfix release. <SNIP 1.6.0 (This is what you are referring to I guess) 2002-09-06 After a productive development period, but somewhat, ahem, languorous release schedule, we are pleased to announce the availability of a new stable release of Guile: version 1.6.0. </SNIPPETS>
i read sites before i go about, no worries

this is not just a version bump. if you only rename the guile-1.4.1 ebuild to guile-1.6.3 you will get the error i posted here: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13018#c3 you need to modify the src_unpack() part of the ebuild. there you see a: cd ${S} cp ${FILESDIR}/net_db.c libguile/ after i removed that. i could emerge guile 1.6.3. needed it for trackballs a game. unfortunately the game sucks. marbe blast is much better, but closed source for which you have to pay.

guile-1.6.4 has been committed. it is currently masked for testing as is the whole gnucash-1.8.2-r1 sheebang.
well, this is now unmasked on ~x86 now.
i should close this bug then as well.
