When playing music in xmms it will not advance from one song to another, Right before the song is over I get an ALSA error in a console. "ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:866:(snd_pcm_hw_open) open /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p failed: Device or resource busy" The worst thing about it is that aparently xmms is trying to go to the next song approximatly 3-5 seconds before the current song is over. I have rebuilt my whole system since this has started so I highly doubt that it is a configuration problem Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open xmms 2. Start a song 3. Wait till it is finished Actual Results: When the song is done xmms will just sit there, as if it is still playing the song, the time will be 00:00 or the last second of the song if you have xmms counting up, and the small icon next to the time will be a play icon. Expected Results: It should just play the song. xmms opens the next song in order to stream the 2 songs together w/out gaps what are you using as your sound server ?
ALSA.
can you emerge gcc-config and then post your emerge info again, please?
frew?
Sorry, will do. I got your first comment but then lost it in the bustle of life, and it may be a few days or even a week until I can do anything on my computer as I can't even get past the BIOS right now....Sorry again if that was too much info. Thanks for the prompt replies and stuff, will reply as soon as possible. -fREW

I have used both the oss and alsa drivers within xmms with no problems. What build of alsa are youi using? I was having alsa problems from 0.9.0-rc2-rc5 but rc6 and rc7 have been very good to me on many different systems. What kind of soundcard do you have? Haev you changed any of the buffer settings with the alsa-xmms options?
My current build is "alsa-driver-0.9.0_rc6." I am gonna emerge rc7 and see if that helps. My sound card is a "via82xx" I don't know the actual name, it is built into the mobo, but that is the driver and it is close to the name. I have changed buffer settings trying to fix this, but never before.
Ok, well I messed with alsa and it still does it.
I have found exactly the same bug. I had no idea how to fix it, so I did 'emerge -C xmms' and tried to re-emerge it, but plugins was installed /usr/lib instead of /usr/lib/xmms, and xmms found no plugins. I have been using noatun couple of weeks, even though I don't like it :( System: Linux 2.4.20 i686 AuthenticAMD gcc 3.2.2 alsa-driver 0.9.0_rc6 (i810_audio.o)
is this a problem still? cause alot of info i see from emerge on you system is now out of date :)
Well, I update my software daily, so it is up to date now. And since the new version of ALSA it has been fixed. Thanks.
closing, Thanks Bret.
