Description Bob Reveley 2006-10-15 21:57:08 UTC
Updating openssh-4.3_p2-r5 to openssh-4.4_p1-r4 fails at applying the patch described in the summary.

I will include the *.out file for the patch as an attachment but here is the stack:

I've tested it by "ebuild ... unpack", but it doesn't fail, though.
So, your patch or src tarball isn't broken?
And could you mind to try re-fetch these stuffs?

I tried deleting all openssh distfiles, deleted the /var/tmp/portage/net-misc directory and unmerging openssh.

I then re-merged the previous openssh (openssh-4.3_p2-r5). When I again ran 'emerge -uDv openssh', the hpn patch again failed.

I deleted all the same files. I then deleted the openssh-4.4_p1-r4.ebuild out of /usr/portage/net-misc/openssh and all of the files in /usr/portage/net-misc/files that were placed there the same time I synced to get the openssh-4.4_p1-r4 ebuild.

I ran 'emerge --sync', then 'emerge -uDv openssh'. This time an update to either autoconf or automake ran first, then openssh update again failed at the hpn patch.

It seems like I removed any fetched files that might have been bad and the same thing happened.

Please have a look at the file I attached with Comment #1. This is the openssh-4.4p1-hpn12v11-gentoo.patch.bz2-6232.out file from /var/tmp/portage/openssh-4.4_p1-r4/temp/.

Thanks,
Bob

you didnt post `emerge info` so i dont know how your system is configured

`emerge openssh -pv` would be useful as well

My pleasure. Meanwhile, I've upgraded to openssh-4.4_p1-r4 with USE="-hpn" as my system is standalone and hpn is probably not stricly needed.

Some folks might need it, though, so I'll tell you further that it looks like the eutils.eclass file is from 10/6/06 (# $Header: /var/cvsroot/gentoo-x86/eclass/eutils.eclass,v 1.253 2006/10/06 07:00:14 flameeyes Exp $) and also that the selinux and x509 patches were applied successfully.

Good Day,
Bob
Comment 9 Olivier Castan 2006-10-17 12:19:19 UTC
Same problem with amd64 arch. Looks like current X509 and hpn patches are not compatible. With "X509 chroot hpn" use flags patches are applied in the same order : X509, chroot and hpn. I've played with use flags and hpn patch fails unless I disable X509 :
USE="-X509 hpn" emerge -v openssh
works fine
Comment 10 Alex Tarkovsky 2006-10-21 20:34:55 UTC
openssh-4.4_p1-r4 is still broken, so why was the *working* openssh-4.4_p1-r3 just removed from Portage?
Comment 11 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2006-10-24 21:01:01 UTC

Funny guy, I've been using it on 2 boxes for several weeks with no problems. Box 1:

Installed: 4.4_p1-r3[03:57:33 AM 10/05/2006][-static pam tcpd -kerberos -skey -selinux chroot X509 -ldap -smartcard hpn -libedit X]

Box 2:

Installed: 4.4_p1-r3[02:50:54 AM 10/04/2006][-static pam tcpd -kerberos -skey -selinux chroot X509 -ldap -smartcard hpn -libedit X]

Stick that in your buttcrack and smoke it.
Comment 13 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2006-10-24 21:51:22 UTC
did you even bother reading the ebuild ? i didnt think so

older versions of the 4.4_p1 ebuild didnt actually include hpn support

here's a tip: do some research first before saying something stupid

Yes I see that, but at least it was a *working* copy of openssh 4.4... now you've gone and deleted or hard-masked all 4.4 versions in Portage, forcing me to downgrade from 4.4 to 4.3 and rebuild everything that was built against 4.4. Thanks a fucking lot.
Comment 15 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2006-10-24 22:09:20 UTC
well, if you dont understand how to use emerge, that's your problem

funny how `USE=-hpn emerge openssh` would have worked just as well as downgrading

He's right, Alex. Either that or 'USE=-x509 emerge openssh' as a previous commenter stated that he was able to emerge 4.4 by not using x509 or hpn.

4.4 isn't masked.
