log4j is a fast and robust logging package for Java.  There is one gotcha with this 
package, there is a function called assert, which is now a keyword in java as of jdk1.4. 
This doesn't seem to break anything yet, and hopefully by the time it does it will be fixed 
in the log4j package.

p.s I love this ebuild stuff :)
