I suspect this is an upstream bug, but just in case... Running gnome-screensaver with Electric Sheep selected just blanks the screen, dumps this message to console: gnome-screensaver-WARNING **: Could not execute command for theme: electricsheep --root 1 I have installed the following packages: gnome-extra/gnome-screensaver-2.14.2 x11-misc/electricsheep-2.6.7-r1 (also tried x11-misc/electricsheep-2.6.8) And yes, I made an electricsheep.desktop file in /usr/share/gnome-screensaver/themes/ with the migrate-xscreensaver-config.sh script. emerge --info: Portage 2.1.1 (default-linux/x86/2006.1, gcc-4.1.1, glibc-2.4-r3, 2.6.17-gentoo-r7 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.17-gentoo-r7 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 3000+ Gentoo Base System version 1.12.5 Last Sync: Sat, 30 Sep 2006 13:20:01 +0000 ccache version 2.3 [enabled] app-admin/eselect-compiler: [Not Present] dev-java/java-config: 2.0.30 dev-lang/python: 2.4.3-r4 dev-python/pycrypto: 2.0.1-r5 dev-util/ccache: 2.3 dev-util/confcache: [Not Present] sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.17 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r7 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r2 sys-devel/binutils: 2.16.1-r3 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.3.13-r3 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.22 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.17-r1 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/share/X11/xkb /usr/share/texmf/dvipdfm/config/ /usr/share/texmf/dvips/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/generic/config/ /usr/share/texmf/tex/platex/config/ /usr/share/texmf/xdvi/" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/env.d /etc/env.d/java/ /etc/gconf /etc/java-config/vms/ /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/terminfo" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig ccache distlocks metadata-transfer sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://mirror.datapipe.net/gentoo http://mirror.datapipe.net/gentoo http://gentoo.chem.wisc.edu/gentoo/" LINGUAS="" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS="--exclude-from=/etc/portage/rsync.exclude" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --delete-after --stats --timeout=180 --exclude='/distfiles' --exclude='/local' --exclude='/packages'" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.us.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 3dnow 3dnowext X a52 aac acl acpi adns afs aim alsa artworkextra asf audiofile avahi bash-completion bitmap-fonts bonobo browserplugin bzip2 c++ cairo caps ccache cdparanoia cli crypt curl daap dbus directfb divx4linux dlloader dmi dri dvd dvi effects elibc_glibc exif expat fam fbcon festival ffmpeg firefox flac flash gdbm gimp glitz glut gnome gnomecanvas gnutls gpm gs gstreamer gstreamer010 gtk guile hal icq imagemagick imap inkjar input_devices_keyboard input_devices_mouse input_devices_wacom isdnlog jabber java joystick jpeg kerberos kernel_linux kqemu lame latex lcms libnotify mad mime ming mmap mmx mmxext mng mozdevelop mozilla mozsvg mp3 msn musicbrainz nautilus ncurses network nptl nptlonly nsplugin nvidia ogg openal opengl oscar pam pcre pdf perl png ppds pppd pulseaudio python quicktime readline real reflection rtc samba sdl session smime sndfile spell spl sse ssl startup-notification svg sysfs tagwriting tcpd tetex threads tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1 type1-fonts udev unicode usb userland_GNU userlocales utf8 video_cards_nvidia vim vorbis win32codecs wmf xface xine xml xorg xpm xscreensaver xv xvid xvmc yahoo zlib" Unset: CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, INSTALL_MASK, LANG, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS
I'm currently blocked by bug #227239
please call us back when electricsheep gets back some maintenance.
Can we readdress this bug? This problem is still existent. Electric sheep runs perfect on standalone (Eg: From command line) and from xscreensaver, however gnome-screensaver simply shows a black screen. Is this something I should be complaining to electric sheep developers about instead?
Recent gnome-screensaver do not play any kind of animation so this can be definitively close now. Thanks for reporting.
