Please test latest version of dvdrip for arch stability. Lots of changes in this one, and I'd like to get all the other unstable ebuilds cleaned out. 0.98.1 is the first release deemed "stable" by upstream since the 0.5 branch. Thanks
gah, really jumping the gun on this one. Marking as LATER.
Reopening to request stablization testing on arches that have everything marked stable. Thanks guys.
sparc stable.

please don't stabilize this one right away for x86: i've had problems with different versions of dvdrip in the past, that may not show up after ripping a 50min clip for testing. to illustrate this, the current stable version 0.52.7-r1 is broken for me (at least it was when i wanted to rip a movie some months ago) allthough i was one of the AT's that once said "go ahead and stable it". one may argue, that, if the current stable version is broken, there should not be much harm done by making a newer (and possible broken) version stable. on the other hand, i think, this bug is a perfect occasion to do some QA. besides, it should be checked if bug 135326 affects dvdrip-0.98.1. i will give dvd-rip-0.98.1 a closer look after i'm home from work (in about 10 hours), and thus will have some reliable results in about 30 hours.
well, here are my first results: in general, dvdrip-0.98.1 USE="hal ogg subtitles vcd vorbis xine xvid -fping -mplayer" works better than i expected :-); however, dvdrip does not close all it's subprocesses when you close it; for example, try to start ripping and then just exit the program. you will notice that something is still eating lot's of cpu cycles and have to shutdown the relevant processes yourself. besides, i got this message after i tried to open a new project in the middle of a session, before the program died: Can't call method "set_tc_clip2_left" on an undefined value at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8/Gtk2/Ex/FormFactory/Proxy.pm line 148. stupidly i have not yet found a way to reproduce this ... what remains to be done for me is to check how bug 135326 affects dvd-rip ...
(In reply to comment #5) > - works after setting codec to xvid (default is divx which does not work) confirmed; i'm just woundering why divx4 is the default codec if it does not work
bug 135326 does of course affect dvdrip: [export_xvid4.so] Neither './xvid4.cfg' nor '~/.transcode/xvid4.cfg' [export_xvid4.so] found. Default settings will be used instead. [decode_mpeg2.c] libmpeg2 0.4.0b loop decoder [decode_mpeg2.c] libmpeg2 acceleration: 3dnow sh: line 1: 15727 Segmentation fault execflow -n 15 transcode -H 10 -a 0 -x vob, null -i /home/antonio/rip/AOEO/vob/022/ -b 128,0,0 --a52_drc_off -f 25 -B 12,10,8 -R 1 -y xvid4,null -o /dev/null --print_status 25 failed to write Y plane of frame(demuxer.c) write program stream packet: Broken pipe (iodump.c) left out 1 directory entries note that xvid encoding works perfectly with with xvid-1.1.0. thus, while not the fault of dvdrip, the outcome is: a major feature of dvdrip-0.98.1 does not work on x86 if you are using the latest stable version of xvid. therefore, in my opinion, fixing xvid for x86, should be done before dvdrip-0.98.1 gets stable.
unfortunately media-libs/xvid-1.1.0-r2 is broken as well; so the only solution i see is to mask media-libs/xvid-1.1.0-r1 until bug 135326 is resolved ...
i've just found out another issue with dvdrip-0.98.1 (sorry :-)): if you rip a movie with xvid-1.1.0 (the version that works) with the more unusual framerate of 29.97, audio and video are horribly out of sync. i'm not sure if this is a dvdrip or a transcode bug ... transcode-1.0.2-r2 USE="3dnow X a52 dvdread gtk jpeg lzo mjpeg mmx mp3 mpeg ogg quicktime sdl sse theora truetype vorbis xml xvid (-altivec) -dv -extrafilters -fame -imagemagick -network -sse2 -v4l2" if i should look at this closer, or open a separate bug for this issue, let me know ! So any problems with the final output are either going to be caused by 1) stupid encoding settings, 2) badly encoded video to start with, or 3) bugs in the external tools. Resolving bug as later.
