Don't restrict bugs without any reason. Just leave the checkboxes alone, please.
Comment 2 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2006-09-21 00:12:37 UTC
you need to post both `emerge info` as well as the file the build mentioned:

Comment 6 Matthias Bethke 2006-09-26 02:34:07 UTC
Works just fine here...the only major difference between our systems that I see is the CPU. Strange.
Try compiling autoconf's failed programs (from the log under "checking {fifos,sockets}..."; they should compile OK) and run them under "strace -ff -ofoo" to see where exactly they're hanging. Looks like some write() doesn't return so the program gets a timeout after 5s.

Here's my emerge --info:

Could you please upgrade your profile (we are at 2006.1 by now) and then do an `emerge -vuaDN world` and then see if screen emerges?
Comment 8 FieldySnuts 2010-11-19 04:57:04 UTC
I'm seeing this issue though not on HPPA, but on x86. I did not think creating another bug would be prudent and would probably get marked as duplicate, anyway.

This is on a Xen system (Linode). I've never seen this error before and have not been able to figure it out. We're sure that their kernel has FIFO and PIPE support, yet the config just bails as if it doesn't.

Error:

configure: checking fifos...
checking usable fifos... no
configure: checking sockets...
checking sockets are usable... no
configure: error: you have neither usable sockets nor usable pipes -> no screen

I will attach config.log.

Here's emerge --info:
