Description Jason S. 2006-09-16 23:57:49 UTC
I was about to file a bug that newt-0.52.2 is failing to compile because it cannot link to popt, and on further investigation, I found out why.

Quite simply, popt-1.10.4 is installing libs to /usr/lib6464

>>> Completed installing popt-1.10.4 into /var/tmp/portage/popt-1.10.4/image/

man:
gzipping man page: popt.3
strip: x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-strip --strip-unneeded
   usr/lib6464/libpopt.so.0.0.0
   usr/lib6464/libpopt.a
>>> Merging dev-libs/popt-1.10.4 to /
--- /usr/
--- /usr/share/
--- /usr/share/doc/
--- /usr/share/doc/popt-1.10.4/
>>> /usr/share/doc/popt-1.10.4/README.gz
>>> /usr/share/doc/popt-1.10.4/CHANGES.gz
--- /usr/share/man/
--- /usr/share/man/man3/
>>> /usr/share/man/man3/popt.3.gz
--- /usr/share/locale/
--- /usr/share/locale/ja/
--- /usr/share/locale/ja/LC_MESSAGES/
>>> /usr/share/locale/ja/LC_MESSAGES/popt.mo
--- /usr/lib6464/
>>> /usr/lib6464/libpopt.a
>>> /usr/lib6464/libpopt.so.0 -> libpopt.so.0.0.0
>>> /usr/lib6464/libpopt.so.0.0.0
>>> /usr/lib6464/libpopt.la
>>> /usr/lib6464/libpopt.so -> libpopt.so.0.0.0
--- /usr/include/
>>> /usr/include/popt.h

/usr/lib6464 is also not added to ld.so.conf.
Could we get a fix and a revbump to popt-1.10.4-r1 ?

I don't think it's relevant, but my emerge --info regardless:

Sure, it was committed to portage a week ago. Please emerge --sync and try again :)

Can I point out a quick musing?
(I'm sure you've heard it before, but I need a laugh :D.)

I have emerge --sync in a cron.
This package broke rsync, I have to rsync to get the patch + revbump.
(Yes, I read the other bug, I'm downgrading, rsync, and upgrading :-).)

I missed the other bug because I was going to file a bug on newt breakage. I searched for /newt/ only, and then changed my bug mid-composition to popt when I found the error.

No wonder I haven't had any new packages to update in a few days.
*methinks I need to set up better logging for errors including rsync...*

Thanks Michael / Jakub.

Closing, it's really a dup.
