The kernel driver for OV511 webcams is (slightly) outdated and does not contain the decompression module which improves resolution on several models and is compulsory to get all the newer models (with OV518 chip) working.
There are two options: make an ebuild for the 2.xx development version (as requested in bug #117435), or make an ebuild for the 1.xx stable version on the website (which is also slightly newer than the kernel version.
